KRUIS VAN LIEFDE
A new Easter Oratorio in Afrikaans
"Kruis van liefde" is a brand new Easter Oratorio in Afrikaans, composed by the South African composer
Franco Prinsloo.
The story of the crucifixion of Jesus is told using new, moving poetry by esteemed poets Professor Hans du Plessis and Professor Bernard Odendaal. The audience will be taken on a musical pilgrimage by the Vox Chamber Choir, to whom the work has been dedicated.
Franco Prinsloo’s composition is a compelling setting of the rich poetry. A small ensemble accompanies the choir. This ensemble consists of, amongst others, organ (Isabelle van Rensburg), marimba (Magdalena de Vries), timpani and tubular bells (Deo du Plessis) and additional percussion (Wian Joubert and Herman Swanepoel).
Experience the tale of the Passiontide in Afrikaans and bear witness to the synergy between poetry and music that makes this work so unforgettable.
“Kruis van liefde” has been made possible by the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns ("South African Academy for Science and Art") and is also generously supported by the ATKV and the ATKV School of Creative Writing at North-West University, Potchefstroom campus. We would also like to thank our wine sponsor, Rietvallei Wine Estate, for their generous donation.
