MEET THE VOXIES - A1: Trudie Maartens

Meet our Astonishing Alto: Trudie Maartens #Vox_Tribe

Q: What is your day job? A: I am a Medical Doctor, specialising in Paediatrics.

Q: How many years have you been singing in a choir? A: School choirs, varsity serenades and 3 years of Vox.🥳 Q: What has been your most memorable experience with Vox to date? A: Performing “Lig van Waarheid” in Cape Town last year with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. It was a magical experience to perform this beautiful work by our conductor, Franco Prinsloo, together with such an amazing orchestra in the stunning Groote Kerk, Kaapstad. A dream come true!

Q: What do you enjoy the most about being part of Vox? A: I enjoy the rehearsals! It is time to relax and take deep breaths. There are so many beautiful moments shared during these rehearsals with very special and talented people close to my heart.❤️ #my_tribe Q: Which piece is your favourite that you have performed with Vox Chamber Choir? A: My absolute favourite is “Kruis van Liefde”.

Q: What do you look forward to the most with Vox Chamber Choir? A: I look forward to performing “Kruis van Liefde” on 15 March 2023. This work by Franco is transcending and a true "Magnum Opus". The manner in which we perform it will give you goosebumps with every chord. It is such a special and meaningful work, you just have to come and watch it for yourself!🤩 Q: In which Vox-Tet (our octets) are you? A: Team BLUE!💙 - Team Sebastian in the Sky with Diamonds. #hou_by_die_BLOU #ons_bring_die_gees Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be? A: To heal by touch.

Q: What are you reading/binge watching at the moment: 1. Reading – Why we sleep; 2. Watching – I recently binge watched all the episodes of "Donkerbos" on Showmax in one day. It is a new Afrikaans series with stunning choral music that serves as the soundtrack. It was composed by our conductor, Franco Prinsloo and recorded by Vox Chamber Choir. We made the recordings during our tour to Cape Town last year in June. It was very exciting and an awesome experience to record this music in studio. Q: Name another hobby/interest you participate in? A: I enjoy baking, cooking and spending time with my family and friends. Q: Name a section in "Kruis van Liefde" that gives you goosebumps every time: A: I always get goosebumps in the very first movement “Kom laat ons sing”, where we sing “...die Heer het opgestaan”. The rich harmonies in the choir and the organ, together with the beautiful chord progression to that big moment is something out of this world!
