Updated: Feb 15, 2021

Meet our Brilliant Bass and Manager: Andries Brümmer #Vox_Tribe

Q: What is your day job?

A: Labour Lawyer.

Q: How many years have you been singing in a choir?

A: 7 years.

Q: What has been your most memorable experience with Vox to date?

A: When we were shooting our "Somerkersfees" music video, end of last year, at our "Vox Year End Function" - while we were singing the work the moment was so intense with love and electricity that the whole choir spontaneously took each other's hand while blessing each other with what we are singing. A feeling that cannot be described. #vox_family (oh, and swimming in Lake Garda as a choir in Italy during our 2019 Vox European Tour was everything and more).

Q: What do you enjoy the most about being part of Vox?

A: When we rehearse the focus is there and every single Voxie brings their A-Game, but when we do  social activities then we have so much fun like the "Vox Sorting Ceremony", the "Vox Protea Ceremony", the various Tours, all the Socials, the "Vox Koos Nights", the "Vox Bar Choir" events and the friendly rivalry between the "Vox-Tette": Competing for the "Jano Oberholzer Wissel Trofee" - "Die Wille Wolfgang Minnesangers" for the win!

Q: Which piece is your favourite that you have performed with Vox Chamber Choir?

A: "Cantate Domino" - Franco Prinsloo. An exciting piece with fun extended technique that challenges yourself as a chorister. It has harmonies like only Franco can write. I look forward to perform this work in Europe's cathedrals on our 2022 Vox European Tour.

Q: What do you look forward to the most with Vox Chamber Choir?

A: Recording "Kruis van Liefde", our "Fire Beast | Vuurbees" programme thereafter and obviously our 2022 Vox European Tour.

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

A: Being King of the Ocean. #poseidon_vibes

Q: What are you reading/binge watching at the moment:

1. Reading - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - JK Rowling (I am a HUGE Potter Head #Slytherin_Forever);

2. Watching - Vikings / The Crown / Supernatural.

Q: Name another hobby/interest you participate in?

A: Doing Vox Admin... (It is like running a Multi-billion rand company, lots of stuff to do). Also playing golf, when I get the chance.

Q: Name a section in a piece we perform that gives you goosebumps every time:

A: In "Kruis van Liefde" - Franco Prinsloo, the 8th Resitativo: "Die Volksleiers het aangehou om smalend te sê". In this section the men and woman form a Canon that builds with the Marimba and Organ to such and extent that you go in some sort of frenzy. The effect is mind blowing and will give our audiences chills to their core. #exciting_stuff

Q: List 3 things on your bucket list?

1. Performing a work for TBB which Franco composed for us (Franco, Stefan Venter - one of our Baritones in Vox and my best friend and obviously me as Bass)😜 #wink_wink_nudge_nudge;

2. Visit Scotland - to explore my heritage #clan_campbell;

3. Have a bill board of Vox Chamber Choir on the N1;

(I have to name 2 more...)

4. Perform Joby Talbot's "Path of Miracles";

5. Visit Budapest in Hungary.
