MEET THE VOXIES - B2: Jaco Fourie

Meet our Brilliant Bass: Jaco Fourie #Vox_Tribe

Q: What is your day job?

A: I am a pharmacist/cluster manager by day and wine drinker by night.🍷

Q: How many years have you been singing in a choir?

A: I started singing choir in grade 2 and continued straight through until university. After varsity I took a five-year break. I am extremely blessed and excited to get these rusty pipes working again.🤩

Q: What has been your most memorable experience with Vox to date?

A: On our second day of rehearsal during our #Vox_Choir_Camp earlier this year in January, we rehearsed “Kruis van Liefde” and I was feeling extremely emotional after singing the words: “Gee Hom suur asyn, as Hy vra na water of na wyn”. I will never forget how this moment of realisation made me feel.

Q: What do you enjoy the most about being part of Vox?

A: Vox already feels like a family to me, after only two months. I look forward to our three-hour rehearsals every Thursday. It really centers one again after a long week.

Q: Which piece is your favourite that you have performed with Vox Chamber Choir?

A: Although we have not spent so much time on our conductor, Franco Prinsloo's “Agnus Dei” yet, I had to audition on a section thereof and this is definitely my favourite by far!❤️

Q: What do you look forward to the most with Vox Chamber Choir? A: I am very excited to perform “Kruis van Liefde” on 15 March 2023. I wish I could simultaneously be part of the audience and the choir! You just have to come and listen to it! It will blow your mind! Q: In which Vox-Tet (our octets) are you? A: Team Yellow! – The Fanny Mendelsohn Memorial Singers 💛💛💛 Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be? A: I would like to read minds – this will come in handy, especially in the pharmacy world when I need to know what the “klein wit pilletjie” is.🤣

Q: What are you reading/binge watching at the moment: 1. Reading – “The Client:” by John Grisham, not my usual cup of tea so I’ve been reading since December 2022 – please help; 2. Watching – Servant on Apple TV – I quite enjoy seeing Rupert Grint as someone other than Ron Weasley.

Q: Name another hobby/interest you participate in? A: I enjoy cooking and I almost made it on to "Come Dine With Me" – I only had 3 matching plates at the time so you won’t see me on TV soon. Q: Name a section in "Kruis van Liefde" that gives you goosebumps every time: A: "VII. Vroue van Jerusalem" - it is ONE of the sections in "Kruis van Liefde" that makes the hairs on my arms stand up. It’s such a breath of fresh air being able to sing a part where thought was put into the basses’ lines and notes. Franco really thoroughly thought about every single voice group in “Kruis van Liefde” and I am honoured to be a part of this piece. Listen to it here:

A: I want to see Italy as soon as I pay off my car (only 4 more years?)🇮🇹
