MEET THE VOXIES - S1: Marilize Hattingh

Meet our Spectaular Soprano: Marilize Hattingh #Vox_Tribe

Q: What is your day job?

A: I am a Ward Pharmacist at Netcare Montana Hospital.

Q: How many years have you been singing in a choir?

A: I have been singing in a choir since I was 7 years old…so 25 glorious years I would say.🤩

Q: What has been your most memorable experience with Vox to date?

A: Every experience with Vox is memorable because it only happens once. However, if I have to single out one, it would be the moment I had the great privilege to sing the solo role of Mary, Mother of Jesus, in our conductor, Franco Prinsloo’s Christmas Oratorio: "Lig van Waarheid", with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra in the Groote Kerk, Kaapstad.

Q: What do you enjoy the most about being part of Vox?

A: I love the fact that in Vox, we can be part of an extended family and that each one of us are accepted the way we are, without having to compete with one another. You come as you are!❤️

Q: Which piece is your favourite that you have performed with Vox Chamber Choir?

A: I think this question is impossible to answer, seeing as every concert is so different from the last. Every concert we have or any project to do is unique. However, I will single out one piece from our previous concert: "Beati qui Lugent". That big climax with the impact of the gong… goosebumps every time. Listen to it here and decide for yourself:

Q: What do you look forward to the most with Vox Chamber Choir?

A: Making more even more brilliant memories with our next concert "Requiem", a choral ballet, coming to you in November this year! Big things to come! #watch_this_space

Q: In which Vox-Tet (our octets) are you?

A: I’m in the evergreen SPANTON! Based on composer Anton Bruckner. "Spanton! Spanton! Spanton!" (Team Green💚).

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

A: Apparation- no more sitting in traffic jams!

Q: What are you reading/binge watching at the moment:

1. Reading - The Tattooist of Auschwitz;

2. Watching - Brooklyn 99, Supernatural, The whole of Marvel, Bones and Greys Anatomy for the millionth time.😳

Q: Name another hobby/interest you participate in?

A: I sing where I can, but my newfound hobby is playing Hogwards Legacy on PS5. #Rawenclaw💙

Q: Name a section in "Kruis van Liefde" that gives you goosebumps every time:

A: My favourite part would be in the final movement "XXI: Paasbelydenis" on the word: “Vervreem”- this chord brings the whole oratorium together. Listen to it here:

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

A: I really want to see Japan and learn more about the cuisine and culture.🇯🇵
