Meet the Voxies: Steffie Le Roux (A2)

Meet our Astonishing Alto: Steffie Le Roux #Vox_Tribe

Q: What is your day job?

A: I am a life lover, that's my day job. And if nobody else is looking, I am also a freelance actress/singer, and a drama teacher.

Q: How many years have you been singing in a choir?

A: 15 years in choirs and ensembles.

Q: What has been your most memorable experience with Vox to date?

A: I think the first chord we as a choir sang together, that moment I realized...It feels good to be here.

Q: What do you enjoy the most about being part of Vox?

A: Not only to be in a stress-free space, but to create next level musical magic. And all this high quality creativity together with awesome ordinary people.

Q: Which piece is your favourite that you have performed with Vox Chamber Choir?

A: Haha, funny!

Do I really have to answer this?

The scary thing is.... Every single piece is a favourite moment. It's like asking me to choose between a baked cheesecake and a "plaas melktert". Unfair.

Q: What do you look forward to the most with Vox Chamber Choir?

A: I look forward to treat myself once a week, because music fills every empty space in my body and mind. To see in the next concert how we emotionally move the audience by singing incredible work, and we as choir also share a goose-bump-moment on stage.

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

A:

1. To be able to spot a pothole before digging through one.

2. To be able to give back people's bravery they once believed in when they were five years old.

3. To be able to compose music like our conductor, Franco Prinsloo.

Q: What are you reading/binge watching at the moment:

1. Reading - e-mails, speed fines and the book Cilka's journey;

2. Watching - Das Boot, The Crown and Mastercheff.

Q: Name another hobby/interest you participate in?

A: Drawing, dancing (ballerina met boude), traveling, writing, cooking and observing.

Q: Name a section in a piece we perform that gives you goosebumps every time:

A: Baked cheescake or "plaas melktert"?!

You don't get it, do you?

And this is exactly what gets to me... For the composer, to be able to compose a goose-bump-moment for every piece - just the thought of that- is a goose-bump itself.

Q: List 3 things on your bucket list?

1. Walk the Camino, the whole one;

2. To embrace and love life just as it is;

3a. Have a flêtjie in Holland, Portugal and the Karoo;

3b. Master a new language.
