MEET THE VOXIES - T2: John Robbertse
Meet our Terrific Tenor: John Robbertse #Vox_Tribe

Q: What is your day job?
A: I am an Art Teacher at Curro Roodeplaat by day, and a Fine Artist by night specialising in painting.🎨
Q: How many years have you been singing in a choir?
A: I sang in my High School Choir (Hoërskool Rustenburg) for 5 years. After school, I led a choir free life for 13 years, often feeling that aching longing for music and community. That aching was soothed when I joined Vox Chamber Choir in January 2022, and it has been one of the best decisions I have EVER made! 🌈
Q: What has been your most memorable experience with Vox to date?
A: Our #Vox_Tour to Cape Town last year was a big deal to me, as I felt I really settled into myself as a member of the Vox Tribe. Also, being able to perform our conductor, Franco Prinsloo's 2nd Oratorio: "Lig van Waarheid", with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra was also magical! ✨

Q: What do you enjoy the most about being part of Vox?
A: Apart from the exquisitely composed and beautiful music we sing, it is the COMMUNITY of the choir that I cannot describe in words!❤️❤️❤️A safe space to just BE!
Q: Which piece is your favourite that you have performed with Vox Chamber Choir?
A: "Salve Regina" by Franco Prinsloo, from our newly released album called: "Aeternum", will forever have a special place in my heart. I auditioned for VOX with this piece (with a numbed mouth after having been to the dentist minutes before🤣).
Q: What do you look forward to the most with Vox Chamber Choir?
A: I am looking forward to performing Franco's 1st Oratorio called: "Kruis van Liefde" with my beloved Voxies on 15 March this year for Easter. It premiered before I joined VOX, so getting to perform it just after doing "Lig van Waarheid" is something very special to me.
Q: In which Vox-Tet (our octets) are you?
A: THE FANNY MENDELSSOHN MEMORIAL SINGEEEEEERS!!!! 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: It would be having the ability to remove the carbs from all junk food without compromising on the taste! #low_carb_life #the_struggle_is_real🥦

Q: What are you reading/binge watching at the moment:
1. Reading - Any and all Art History Books #obsessed
2. Watching - That 90's Show (on Netflix)
Q: Name another hobby/interest you participate in?
A: I'm lucky to be able to practice my hobby for my career, being an artist.👨🏻🎨
Q: Name a section in "Kruis van Liefde" that gives you goosebumps every time:
A: "XIV. Dink Aan My" - it gets me EVERY time!!!😍 It's exactly in the middle of the Oratorio, where the criminal on the cross next to Jesus asks Him just to think about Him when He enters paradise. It is such a vulnerable, personal piece, just between a sinner and Jesus. It is also the only a capella section in the whole work, making it special and heartfelt.🙏🏻
Get your tickets for 15 March, Kruis van Liefde, live at NG Universiteitsoord, Pretoria here. You do not want to miss this magical choral experience. Click here for tickets!
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
A: Paris!!! 🇫🇷 Cliché, I know, and I've already been there 3 times. But for an Arty like me, I will never tire of Her!
