MEET THE VOXIES - A1: Genine Keys

Meet our Astonishing Alto: Genine Keys #Vox_Tribe

Q: What is your day job?

A: I am in finance and am responsible for the financials for Knight Piesold’s other Southern African Regions.

Q: How many years have you been singing in a choir?

A: Singing since I can remember, but officially joined a choir in grade 1. I always had a passion for choirs and joined a cappella groups in varsity. Life got busy later on and for about 10 years I missed the choir-life. So, I took a leap of faith and auditioned for Vox in January 2023. Quite frankly, it feels unreal to be a part of such a professional and highly skilled group of choral artists I now get to call #my_tribe! A dream come true!

Q: What has been your most memorable experience with Vox to date?

A: If I am honest, the fact that Franco chose me to be part of this extraordinary group of people was a complete shock, meeting the Vox family for the first time and being able to spend time with like-minded people is a highlight in my week, every time.

Q: What do you enjoy the most about being part of Vox?

A: I think the camaraderie of being part of something bigger and creating something beautiful on a professional standard. That community sense that only a choir can have. The love and respect for music, art, peace, laughter, and each other. That for me is #VOX🤩

Q: Which piece is your favourite that you have performed with Vox Chamber Choir?

A: I will only have that privilege on the 15th of March 2023, but from all the pieces I have heard and have learned thus far, my favourite is our conductor's “Agnus Dei”. Franco wrote this in memory of his grandmother and as someone who can understand that bond, it has me in tears every time.

Q: What do you look forward to the most with Vox Chamber Choir?

A: Firstly performing “Kruis van Liefde”. This is going to be something spectacular! Secondly, I am looking forward to being part of this choir family for as many years as they will have me.

Q: In which Vox-Tet (our octets) are you?

A: Very proudly part of “Span Anton” (Team Green💚).

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

A: Telepathy (like professor X) - as mindreading sounds fun, but I think mind to mind communication could be better.

Q: What are you reading/binge watching at the moment:

1. Reading – Girl, Stop apologizing by Rachel Hollis and the knitting in the city series by Penny Reid ( I love self-help psychology books and for fun the “no thinking necessary” romance novels);

2. Watching – I am re-watching “Friends" for the umpteenth time.🥳

Q: Name another hobby/interest you participate in?

A: I recently started Ballroom dance, and in lock-down I learned how to crochet (must admit keeps my mind occupied and off work).

Q: Name a section in "Kruis van Liefde" that gives you goosebumps every time:

A: For me it’s a tie between 2 sections:

1) "XII. Vader Vergewe hulle" - as this secion feels as if its Jesus’s daily prayer for us stil;. and then

2) "XIV. Dink and my" - the sound and the longing that this song portrays is just magical.

Get your tickets for 15 March, Kruis van Liefde, live at NG Universiteitsoord, Pretoria here. You do not want to miss this magical choral experience: https://tickets.tixsa.co.za/event/kruis-van-liefde-vox-chamber-choir

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

A: The UK. I want to spend a rainy afternoon in a small village pub drinking away with the local’s and listening to their stories. (Also want to experience my ancestral heritage).
