MEET THE VOXIES - A2: Lize van Dorsten

Meet our Astonishing Alto: Lize van Dorsten #Vox_Tribe

Q: What is your day job?

A: I am a Professional Registered Nurse, specialised in ICU/Critical Care. Currently working at Zuid Afrikaans Hospital.

Q: How many years have you been singing in a choir?

A: A wonderful 14 years and counting…

Q: What has been your most memorable experience with Vox to date?

A: The annual #Vox_Choir_Camp that was held at the end of January 2023. It was so much fun!

Q: What do you enjoy the most about being part of Vox?

A: First and foremost, for me, it was becoming part of a group of professional musicians again, and that one can actually feel a sense of purpose and belonging once again. Music is a universal language and can bring ALL together.❤️

Secondly: Performing incredible, masterfully composed music, which really captures the essence of art and intimately performing the pieces as a chior, more importantly performing as a whole. It is like witnessing the 8th World Wonder of the world everytime, but unfortunately not many people on this earth are so blessed to be able to experience this themselves. #We_the_blessed_few.🤩

Lasly, getting to know each other with specially organised social activities, that helps us to get to know one another better. If we know one another, we will trust one another on stage and I believe it will lead to better trusting relationships within the entire chior as well. Most importantly, intimate trust between conductor and chior.

Q: Which piece is your favourite that you have performed with Vox Chamber Choir?

A: "Kruis van Liefde" composed by our conductor, Franco Prinsloo. You need to listen to this work. It is a MIND BLOWING EXPERIENCE!💥

Q: What do you look forward to the most with Vox Chamber Choir?

A: I enjoy the beautiful music we are so blessed to be able to experience and live through with such an emotional "connectedness" as a group.

Secondly, to grow as a professional choral artist and listen and learn at every rehearsal and performance, to become a better singer/performer.

Q: In which Vox-Tet (our octets) are you?

A: The BEST team ever: "Team Sebastian in the Sky with Diamonds" #hou_by_die_blou #ons_bring_die_gees (Team Blue💙).

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

A: To be able to fly. Then, I would no longer have to be stuck in any loadshedding traffic.🤣

Q: What are you reading/binge watching at the moment:

1. Reading - I am not a lover of reading;

2. Watching - Money Heist!

Q: Name another hobby/interest you participate in?

A: I was a National Springbok athlete and stopped competing at 26 years of age, but I still like to keep fit. I love doing any/all adventure water sports.

ALSO, I love lego and bulid and collect many designs.

Q: Name a section in "Kruis van Liefde" that gives you goosebumps every time:

A: It is a very difficult question to ask but here goes: “XVI. Vrou, kyk daar is u Seun”. As well as: “XVIII. My God, My God, waarom het U my gelos”. As well as: “VII. Vroue van Jerusalem”. (I just decide!)

Get your tickets for 15 March, Kruis van Liefde, live at NG Universiteitsoord, Pretoria here. You do not want to miss this magical choral experience: https://tickets.tixsa.co.za/event/kruis-van-liefde-vox-chamber-choir

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

A: Austria, once again, as well as Florance and Venice, almost anywhere in Europe as a matter of fact! For purposes of being able to sing in the beautiful cathedrals. The other destination I am dreaming of are Cancoon, Mexico, a paradise absolute!
