Meet the Voxies: Stefan Venter (Baritone)

Meet our Brilliant Baritone: Stefan Venter #Vox_Tribe

Q: What is your day job?

A: Civil Engineer.

Q: How many years have you been singing in a choir?

A: 12 years.

Q: What has been your most memorable experience with Vox to date?

A: The 2019 - Vox European Tour. Breathtaking cathedrals, picturesque scenery and moving performances shared with a crazy bunch of people more commonly known as "Voxies".

Q: What do you enjoy the most about being part of Vox?

A: The passion, love and acceptance that Vox brings. It's like a subconscious truth that becomes apparent when we create music together. And in that beautiful moment in time you realise that the result and the experience is so much bigger than just the individual.

Q: Which piece is your favourite that you have performed with Vox Chamber Choir?

A:

1. "Missa Brevis 'San Marco'" and "Jonah's Prayer", both by our conductor and composer, Franco Prinsloo.

(Have a look at this special video collaboration with film-maker Willem van den Heever, inspired by our recording of "Jonah's Prayer". This forms part of our series of collaborations with local and international film-makers and artists called: "Vox Collaborations".)

Q: What do you look forward to the most with Vox Chamber Choir?

A: Our upcoming recordings of "Kruis van Liefde" #watch_this_space; and our 2021 Vox Choir Camp. It is always epic!

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

A: Super speed.

Q: What are you reading/binge watching at the moment:

A:

1. Watching - Disenchantment by Matt Groening;

2. Listening/Podcast - No Such Thing As a Fish by the researchers of the series QI.

Q: Name another hobby/interest you participate in?

A: Doing as little as possible as often as possible.

Q: Name a section in a piece we perform that gives you goosebumps every time:

A: We refer to it as the "Eloi" during rehearsals. An extract from Franco Prinsloo's Easter Oratorio "Kruis van Liefde". It depicts the cries of Jesus at the ninth hour during the Crucifixion. ("My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me?")

Q: List 3 things on your bucket list?

1. Completing the Camino de Santiago;

2. Attending a Voces8 concert;

3. Going on an International Rugby World Cup Supporter Tour.
